In Daniel 2, King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream and demands that it be not only explained to him, but also told back to him. He wanted proof that the interpretation was true. When it was not found possible, he turned to kill all wise men. Daniel, however, prayed to God and was given insight into the dream. He approached the king and explained the dream was one of the future. A statue was made with its body made of various components. A rock was cut out by God himself and hurled at the feet of the rock, smashing it to bits. Then that rock grew and took over the entire world.
The components of the statues are explained to be kingdoms and are fulfilled as:
- The gold head - Daniel himself tells us that this is Babylon
- The silver torso - Greece
- The iron legs - Rome
- The feet of iron mixed with clay - the Roman Catholic Church (iron, but mixed with something else). This was defined as being disjoined, which can be the Protestants from within, branching out. The iron still indicates strength but it is not united.
Therefore, when the rock comes, we can expect the rock to strike the church first.
