2 Chronicles 6:12-8:10

Solomon prays that, despite the fact that heaven cannot contain God, that he turn his ear toward the temple. He knows God cannot dwell in such a small place entirely but asks that he pay attention to his earthly home.

He speaks almost prophetically saying “But will God really dwell on earth with humans? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple have built!” Yet in the next chapter, God fulfills this ask because Solomon has faith that He would.

2 Chron 7:7 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

Interestingly, they celebrate for seven days, then held the Feast of Tabernacles, ending on the 23rd day of the 7th month. God accepted his temple, aptly, at the time when he wished most to dwell among us!

8 So Solomon observed the festival at that time for seven days, and all lsrael with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days more. 10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the LORD had done for David and Solomon and for his people lsrael.
