We see an interesting vision in Ezekiel 8-9. The vision begins with a show of all the debauchery occuring in Israel - idols in the temple, leaders worshiping idols in secret, women in the outer court of the temple weeping for Tammuz, and men facing away from the temple and worshiping the sun. Then it turns to God. Six men enter with deadly weapons and among them is essentially a travelling scribe. God’s presence is described to stand up off of his throne in the Holy of Holies and step to the tent’s entry. From there, he commands the writer to mark any who weep for the sins of the nation. Any who did not have a mark were to be slain. The group go forth immediately and do as commanded.

This is a chilling reminder to us. We are not to allow the world to taint us. Judgement begins from the temple and when God is provoked, his judgement is fierce and swift.
