In the first several chapters if Lev, we see the order of events for offerings. Among these are the sin offerings. One thing that jumps out in the passages is that it repeats “when they sin without knowing and then find out.” To me, this implies that a daily sin offerings was meant only to cover your unintentional sins. There is, however, no such recompense for intentional sins. Rather, once per year, on the Day of Atonement, the High Priest would offer for the whole community in the Holy of Holies. This is the only time we see “all sins” being forgiven. How harrowing to know that God keeps this score. He can overlook a mistake (what people usually say is “missing the mark”) but deliberately deciding to sin - something we all do if we are honest - that isn’t something he can easily overlook. He will, for certain, but it requires more sacrifice, it requires extra steps, and it requires that we draw so close to God that our very safety is in question. Draw near to God, repent for all you have done, and go forth sinning no more. Jesus didn’t give you grace so you could continue to sin without fear of consequences. He gave you grace so that you might be empowered to live a transformed life; one of righteousness and faith.
