In Gen 27, we see the story of Jacob receiving the blessing meant for Esau. At the pressing of his mother, he tricks his father into blessing him, the younger of the twins, instead of his (slightly) older brother. It is thought that verses 34-35 imply that Esau was not a godly man and that he could have even been a mercenary. This is backed up by his immediate reaction to learning of the blessing being that of murder. Jacob, on the other hand, appears stubborn in the Bible but did seem hesitant to take such a rite from his brother (v 12).
