In 2 Timothy 2, Paul invites us to his suffering. He gives three examples for us to emulate in a spiritual sense:

  1. A soldier who only cares about what his master wants. We should not get tied up on things that don’t matter to the mission
  2. An athlete who runs a good race, does not cheat (follows the rules), and wins the race
  3. A farmer who patiently awaits the day to partake in the good fruit after which he labored, trusting in the process

We should strive for these qualities as they breed patience, faithfulness, trust, self-discipline, self-sacrifice, and perseverance.
