In 1 John 2, we are told that the mark of a Christian is that they love God and keep his commandments. Specifically, we are told that we cannot say we love God but also hate a brother or sister. If we do, we do not love God and we are blinded to reality. We must live as Christ did, being willing to undergo hatred and even death, to show love.
