I listened to an interesting podcast today. In it, they talk about the concept of the two messiahs. They start by speaking of Genesis, where Jacob speaks to Joseph and promises a figure will rise from his line. Moses confirms that Joshua (son of Nun, an Ephriamite1) is that realization but will also have a future realization. This prophecy (Deut 33:16-17) was that his descendant would be like a first born ox (born for sacrifice) but would have the horns of an aurochs (a wild ox that was left alone).
This is echoed in Zechariah 9 [^2]and Micah 5 [^3]. Likewise, Joseph is likened to a vine (vineyard) in Isaiah 5:7.
In Enoch, and several other extra biblical texts (Nephtali, Apocalypse of Ezra, Yeshua, Jasher)ore clear links are made. They, for example, reference the sun standing still (Joshua 10) and that figure coming from heaven.
How does this messiah differ from Jesus?
- Son of David (Judah)
- Son of Joseph
- Primarily held by Samaritans
- Some think this is Megatron (the rock that follows the people)
- A literal descendant via father
