In 1 Peter 2, Peter quotes Hosea. In Hosea, three children are named: one after a king, one “not my people,” and one “no mercy.” The children are used as a metaphor for God putting aside Judah as the wicked bride she was. However, he puts her aside with the promise of restoration, saying that those who were shown no mercy would receive mercy and that those who were not his people would be called “his people.” Peter reminds us that, through Jesus, this prophecy is now fulfilled!
1 Peter 2:10
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Hos 2:23
and will sow her for myself in the land. And I will have mercy on No Mercy, and will say to Not My People, You are my people’; and he shall say, You are my God.”
