In Judges 4, the story of Deborah is unfolded. As a judge of Israel, she arose to defend the people from occupation. She prophecies that the victor will not be the man she speaks with, for he was hesitant and only wanted to fight if she came along with him, but rather a woman. She did not speak of herself but a descendant of Moses’s brother-in-law, who - to them - appeared traitorous. She welcomed the leader in when he fled the battle and then brutally murders him while he slept. God, ultimately, still achieved his purpose but rewarded the one who acted faithfully by giving her the claim of victor, not the one who led the big battle.

Sometimes, God simply wants us to act in faith, not rely on him for everything. The response should always be an immediate action. This is what the Lord’s prayer is saying with “your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In heaven, God commands and action is immediate and decisive. It is our job as Christians to behave the same way. God will never ask us to do something we cannot do and he will always fight along side us; however, just as the Canaanites were left to test the obedience of Israel, sometimes an obstacle is placed in our life so that we, ourselves, can overcome it.
