In Job 12-14, Job responds to his friends, who have been reminding him of the wages of sin and that God may do as he seems fit with no answer or rebuttal. In his response, he responds acknowledges that, while this is true, he inquires of God because he knows he is blameless. He pities his life again and asks God why he is being judged for the acts of his youth, having nothing more recent he can think of as a sin.

He, ultimately, finds hope in the idea that, as a tree may appear withered, it springs up at the sound of water, so too might he spring up again after death. In his new life, he knows that God won’t keep record of his sins. While He will continue to watch over Job, there will be no tally against him.
