In James 2, the tongue is compared to a ships rudder or a bridle on a horse. If you can control the tongue, you have enough self discipline to rule the whole body - it is the hardest to wrangle. It is also compared to a fire, both providing light and warmth but also death and curses. We must be slow to speak.
