1 Cor 12 covers the Gifts of the Spirit. Paul lays them all out as examples and then likens them to a body. One body part is not lesser than another, only different. Likewise, no body part can remove another body part just because the former doesn’t need it in order to do its job. The body parts that are less presentable are only presented with honor and those that are more presentable require no pomp and circumstance. So too is the body of Christ.
The Gifts that Paul lists are listed below and the Spirit gives each of them according to God’s need:
- a message of wisdom
- a message of knowledge
- faith
- healing
- miraculous powers
- prophecy
- distinguishing between spirits
- speaking in different kinds of tongues
- the interpretation of tongues
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
