In Gen 31, we see that God intends for the Sabbath to be a sign of our relationship with him, as we emulate the pattern He set forth in creation. In the new testament, we see that Jesus affirms this in saying that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27-28). Rest, because it is a gift, not because you have to not because you need it. It is a chance, just like a date night, to draw near to God and just enjoy being around him.
