In Daniel 5, we see Nebuchadnezzar’s son, Belshazzar, having a banquet. He brings in the gold and silver from the temple plunder and drinks from the goblets and eats from the plates. God will not have this. A human hand appears and writes “mene mene tekel parsin” in the wall, which Daniel translates to mean, “your days are numbered, you are found wanting, and your land will be split between the Persians and the Medes.” Daniel humbles him by reminding him of the lesson of his father being driven wild and scoffs at how the son learned nothing. The king rewards Daniel but is slain by the Medes that very night.
