What it looks like to follow Christ

In 2 Cor 11, Paul outlines what boasting really looks like as a Christian. It’s not about who baptized you, it’s not about how great your tassels are or how well those around you deem your character. A true Christian life is one that follows God no matter what. He explemplifies this by speaking to a rhetorical person who is boasting. He retorts:

  • I’m a Hebrew too
  • I’m an Israelite too
  • I’m one of Abraham’s descendents
  • He is also a servant of Christ
  • He’s worked harder (he admits he hates to say this) by:
    • going to prison
    • being flogged severely
    • been nearly killed repeatedly
    • whipped 40-1 lashes 5 times
    • beaten with a rod 3 times
    • stones once
    • in 3 shipwrecks
    • adrift at see for a full 24 hours
    • constantly moving around
    • in danger of the elements, robbers, Jews, Gentiles, and false believers; not safe in a city or outside of a city
  • gone without sleep
  • gone hungry and thirsty
  • been cold and naked
  • constantly concerned over the churches

2 Cor 11:29 Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn? ³⁰ If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.
