In 2 Samuel 1-2, we are told how David becomes king of Judah. After Saul falls on his spear, an Amalakite sees him and puts him out of his misery. He then takes the crown and band from his arm and delivers them to David. David and his men grieve and then kill the man, as he had killed the king. David then becomes ruler of Judah. At the same time, Saul’s only living son takes the throne over the rest of Israel.
