There is a story in Numbers 11 that makes me chuckle. The children of Israel had been obedient and followed the cloud for two years. After a while, they complained about the lack of meat and that they “only” had manna to eat (literally a daily miracle). Moses responds with frustration but God tells them to buckle up because he’s about to give them so much meat that it busts out of their nostrils and they grow sick of it. Moses responds with a snarky ‘oh ok then’ to which God responds with a “is my arm too short?” Which I read as “son, hold my beer.”

How often in life do we neglect God’s literal miracles before us: an amazing job full of people ready to hear the word of God, a family who loves and supports you, the sacrifice of Jesus, and complain about how things could be better. This passage, to me, is funny in that God says fine and then pours out blessings on blessings. God is happy to reward our obedience and is quick to bless when we complain, so long as we love him.
