Dust
The dust of the temple is mentioned in Numbers 5 as a part of the Adultery Test. This test is much like what Moses makes the people do after The Golden Calf - where he ground down dust and gold and made them drink it.
Gen 2:7 man was formed from dust and we will return to dust (Gen 1:19). Just as dust is largely our dead skin cells, so death represents death and, by extension, sin.
We see in the new testament that dust points toward repentance. Jesus even goes so far as to clean the dust off of the disciples feet, wiping away the consequence of sin
Mar 6:11-12 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.
Luke 10:10-12 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
This is a fulfillment of the Bronze Basin in the temple. Therein, you must wash your hands and feet before entering the tent of meeting, lest they die.
