Free Will
These are used to express gratitude. They are a sweet aroma to God. Today, they are not animals but if it’s something you give to God, he receives it and loves it

Commanded
These are required. Neither were instituted to remove intentional sin, only unintentional or accidental (Lev 4:2, 4:20, 4:22, 4:27, 5:2-6, Num 15:22-29). There is no animal sacrifice that can forgive intentional sin. Num 15 says that’s intentional sin, native or foreign, they must be cut off and their guilt remains. Humbling yourself before God, a broken and contrite heart, and asking for forgiveness is the only way to be forgiven. Grace is the only answer. David does this with Nathan after Bathsheba 2 Sam 12:12-13 (leading to Ps 51). Same with Manasseh. Micah 6:6-8, Ps 40:6-8 tells us what God truly desires: mercy, humility, faithfulness. With words, we return to God.
